About the event

This GivingTuesday, Women's Medical Respite will inspire generosity by hosting our GivingTuesday 2023 Virtual Fundraiser!

GivingTuesday is a global generosity movement, unleashing the power of people and organizations to transform their communities and their world. GivingTuesday will kick off the generosity season this year by inspiring people to give back on November 28, 2023, and throughout the year.

Women's Medical Respite joins GivingTuesday this year by asking our community members to support us by donating to our fundraising event created to assist with two immediate needs for our respite:

1. A large capacity washer and dryer set ($2600)

2. A new office desktop computer ($2000)

With assistance from community donations and the help and support of individuals and local groups, we are confident that this fundraising initiative will  help create an easier transition into our new respite facility. Having a quality set of laundry appliances will allow our staff to maintain linen cleanliness more easily and will give clients a better way to clean their clothing. Clients may not have had the opportunity to clean their clothes for extended periods of time due to living on the street or staying in a hospital for an extended period. Purchasing a new washer and dryer offers an easier time for clients and staff, and will also decrease utility costs. Newer washers and dryers offer lower energy usage and conserve water use more than older models, and break down less often. This means lower water and electricity bills as well as less cost in repairs over time.

Along with new laundry appliances, Women's Medical Respite is hosting GivingTuesday this year to raise funds for an office desktop computer. This purchase would complete the furnishing of everything the Operations Department and staff members will need to perform at their best in the new facility. The computer will be used to assist in client intake and discharge, to help clients locate community resources, and to host the Homeless Management Information System (HMIS) portal.

Women's Medical Respite has been offered to adopt usage of the HMIS portal through the Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Department of Missouri. Adopting the HMIS portal will allow Women's Medical Respite to assist unsheltered, medically fragile women more easily, and will give our organization a way to help keep more consistent records. This ensures our staff and providers have an easier time locating assistance projects or government aid for any client, and helps them be more aware of things like housing placement resources.

GivingTuesday was launched in 2012 as a simple idea: to create a day that encourages people to do good. Over the past eleven years, this idea has grown into a global movement that inspires hundreds of millions of people to give, collaborate, and celebrate generosity.

People demonstrate generosity in many ways on GivingTuesday. Whether it’s helping a neighbor or stranger out, showing up for an issue or people we care about, or giving to causes we care about, every act of generosity counts. GivingTuesday has raised billions of dollars for critical causes around the world and gets billions of impressions on social media from people and organizations speaking up for the causes that matter to them and encouraging others to get involved in their communities.

“GivingTuesday inspires people all around the world to embrace their power to drive progress around the causes they care about, not just on one day but throughout the year,” said Asha Curran, GivingTuesday’s CEO, and co-founder. “With country and community leaders, millions of organizations, and countless givers of all kinds, GivingTuesday is creating a shared space where we can see the radical implications of a more generous world.”
